What is the right price for an Excellent T or E in your opinion?

I think I have paid too much for many of the early cars I have purchased over the years. So I was wondering what you the members of the early911s registry think is a good price for an excellent 911T or E? I am talking about a price that would lead one to say "well bought." I have seen a number of excellent cars listed in the thirty's, but I think I should be able to get an excellent California restored car in the twenty's. What do you think?

Don, research the sold section of ebay for recent purchase prices. There would be the reality check.

I don't think that you're going to get "excellent" in the 20s.

I think that there are very few quality early coupes available at reasonable prices (= under $30k) right now. Not sure if this is a trend or just a seasonal thing. But the number of cars available on eBay and other listing sites seems very low. I have had calls from several dealers asking me if I have any cars to consign, as they need cars and are willing to waive or reduce fees to get them.

You mention coupes. Are targas a non-starter?

Define excellent; #1 car or excellent for under $20,000?

I have a very nice 1971 E coupe that will need some interior work for 32,500.00. Irish green with tan.many new parts like factory dash, update tensiners, new clutch kit and engine reseal.

The market for targas (other than soft windows) is softer than coupes, but I wouldn't call it a non-starter. If you look hard, I think you can find a decent driver quality targa for under $20k. I don't think you will find an excellent targa in the low 20's. There are some very nice examples of targas that have been listed here recently for low 30's.

I would say no 2 cars are the same and seller reviews of their own car very wildly from reality to fantasy. Find a car you love and jump in.
