corrosion

Anyone know how to treat the engine case for corrosion? Mine has some soft removable corrosion,(white fluff) with some surface damage that I need to address...

Gibbs Brand makes some impressive claims.

I am ordering some to protect my fan and housing.

You know, I bought some aerosol oil some time ago from them, is that what you are referring to? or is there another item that they use for corrosion ?...Cliff

All I know is the product is called "Gibbs Brand" and it comes in various quantities
from pumper bottles to aerosol cans to drums. If it does what it claims then I'm
not expecting any corrosion to the aluminium surfaces.

I use Gibbs Brad on my Mag case and tranny. Worked great it restored the case to a nice dark color.
If the engine is apart I strongly recommend having the case washed in a parts washer first.

Whilst I am sure it works to an extent some of the claims are a bit wild! Clearly a strong reducing agent.

If the engine is apart and the case has been split, Ollie's will tumble it. This will remove all the corrosion and make it look new.

Soda blasting also works well but not as good as tumbling.

Protect with Gibb's after removing all the corrosion.

Wasn't Tectyl the original product used by Porsche on engine and gearbox cases?

CRC makes a Corrosion protector very similar to Tectyl. It dries to a waxy dark film just like the Tectyl
