    Mercedes E500

Is anyone, other than myself, interested in these Porsche built cars
It seems that one of these is a a perfect 4 seater companion to my 71T,69 912 Targa, and 89 3.2 coupe

    Thumbs up

My buddy and Registry member Lars W. has one of these beauties...

I believe they made'm for 3 years ... the first year in the 'early' body style, and the two years after in the later style.

Lars has the early body.... the one I like...

I drove it once about 80 spirited freeway miles out to the races at Willow Springs...

It drove like a sports car... in fact you sit in what looks to be one of four 'sports seats'

I also believe that the cost of fixes to the Porsche built engine get stratospheric

    Cheers

They were called 500E for 1992 and 1993...it changed to E500 for -94 and lost a few HP's and the grill and headlights look a little different(grill incorporated with the hood and rounded edges on the lights).
What's not to like?...quick, comfortable, stout and handles like a sportscar....I would say it's a great car for effordless travel with a silksmooth 5 Liter V8 with about 320+ HP's ...I'm sure it's expensive to do significant repair but so far I've been lucky!(fingers crossed)...Unless "reinaldo" knows something I don't, all kinds of people seems to be interested and are asking questions...I have a -93 so it is 17 years old now!...I like it a lot and they can be had for "in the teens" and up depending on condition, etc, etc...I don't remember all details but AMG ?, MBZ and Porsche collaborated with design/modifications of engine, transmission, suspension and body with widening of the engine compartment and tunnel, to fit the "fat" V8.They couldn't utilize the regular E-class assembly line due to these mods, so the body was shuttled between the MBZ and Porsche-plants several times, back and forth, for the various assembly stages on specific trolleys (Must have been prior to Kaisan) ...The fenders have slightly larger flares than the regular E-class and the car sits a little lower on fatter tires...I think they still look good, but then again,I'm an old fart, so what do I know....
