What's this wire (behind oil multi-guage)

Can anyone help me with identifying the green wire sitting unattached behind my oil pressure/temp gauge? It's solid green and the spade connector is wrapped in electrical tape (circled). Makes me think it should be or used to be attached to something.
OR, it's not important and I should just leave it alone

    Thanks for the help!

Excellent! Thanks. Didn't look like a factory job to me.

Funny, I have the same spare green wire in the same location, actually near fuel/tank level gauge, on my late 66 911 (pre-SportO). Other solid green wire is connected to fuel gauge from tank. All other instruments work.

I also have this wire in my '68, which was originally a sporto! I've lived to see the "other end" in the engine bay, too! It's the only remnant of it's sporto past that is left.

I just wanted to say thanks for this thread - as I'm putting the gauges in my 912 -> 911 conversion, I'm swapping over the gauges wire by wire and was really mystified by the solid green wire attached to the overheat light on the oil temp gauge as it doesn't appear on the wiring diagram I have. Referenced to a sporto diagram and now I can stop fretting about what this mystery wire is for!

Thanks for all, I have this wire too and had not been able to get an answer. Now I feel better knowing that a PO had not cut it.

That's right! And now how about the other end? Mine was loose in the back (front of car) of the engine comparment to be possibly plugged in by mistake to the oil pressure sender! Thanks.
