It has been generally noted that our hobby has followed the generations as they aged. The cars that have been popular at any given point are the ones that 40-60 year olds lusted after in their teens. For many this is when they have reached the place in their lives when they have the time, economic means, and the 'want' to relive their youth and satisfied those old desires. My own observations at our local Cars and coffee meets seems to reinforce this. When you see old model T's and thirties Rollers the age of the drivers fits. I also see a lot of thirty something with AMG's, and many of the retro muscle cars the factories are turning out today.
The turn out of younger folks have a strong import hot rod flavor, not that I fully understand their desire to boost their engines till they blow up, but they do take pride in their rides. Some are all about chips/ECU's and pulley ratios. As I walk around, I listen to the way they talk about their cars, I have not lost hope for our hobby, but it will look different in the future just like a car and coffee 30 years ago would look different from today.
