I know it has been discussed in the past. I believe at 1 time the asking was $150,000.

As per the listing:
"This car has no equal of its kind in beauty and rarity."
I've told you a million times - don't exaggerate!

Could those wheels really be original to the car?
This car comes with great documentation. If you look at the dealer invoice, it lists two 7" Fuchs, not four. The seller is mistaken about four 7" wheels being original in his auction description.

The guy tells quite a story about it. It'll be interesting to see what he really ends up getting for it?
I say eventual no sale. To get the bucks this car deserves it will not be on a bottom feeder site such as EBay. If the car is as nice as described I would run it through one of the high end auctions that attract the well healed crowd. Much easier to sell pricy shoes on Rodeo Drive........
86 Sport Purpose Carrera "O4"
Very nice car, but I noticed something viewing the original paperwork on the sellers website.
I'm not 100% sure, but as I read the original sales invoice from Max Moritz provided by the seller . It lists "leather interior" at a cost of DM1225,23.
It does not list sport seats. As far as I know , the two are separate options. You would have to pay extra for sport seats. As far as this invoice reads , this car was not delivered with sport seats.
To further this analysis , I looked up the price list of 1973 options. Since I only had a U.S. version in dollars. I found the exchange rate on the day the invoice was written on Nov. 23,1972 (which was 3.2031 DM per 1 USD).
As per a 1973 MY US accessories price list. "All leather" interior was a cost of $386.00.
DM1225,25 divided by $3.2031 = 382.52 . Since the date the US list was made is unknown , you can account the $3.48 differance to a differant day's exchange rate.
This also points to this car not originally having sport seats. Can't say for sure 100% , but the paper trail does not point to it. So unless Max Moritz dealership not only gave up a pair of sports seats for free , but did not mark it down as NC (no charge ) , or the german equivalent....which is the usual procedure in cases like that by dealerships (they like to remind the customer of a spiff). It does not seem so.
I quess you would need to speak to Mr. Carl Overr
Hyperbolic description and poor marketing skills notwithstanding, it does seem like a very nice car. Who knows what the reserve is, but the starting bid doesn't seem out of line to me. Try buying a 2.4S coupe in similar condition from one of the well known dealers for less in today's "depressed" market.
Nice bones, just needs a proper restoration.
