Great! I'll keep this in mind next time I have an interior that needs to be redone. Glad there are suppliers of the correct houndstooth.

Almost looks like my dad's suit closet from the 70s.

Those look great. You also have std black/white houndstooth already, correct?

How does one see what were factory options originally as far as seat coverings, on the 'net?

I want to get my '68 seats redone sometime and instead of boring all black, I want to have inserts in the middle, but not sure what would be right.

Yes, I did do the black/white as well, and Tony has it. Still trying to figure out the blue..., I'll get with those interested to show the blue options, and we can put it into the next run.

I'll post the options, there's an early factory book with all the various combinations that were used with the green, brown, tan, red, and the blk white. Note that we decided to add the maroon/black/white in addition to the red, as the factory offered the red/blk/white with both maroon AND red vinyl... so we did a sampler of the maroon houndstooth to see if it worked better with the maroon vinyl than the red houndstooth... and it does. Tony has the maroon houndstooth on his website pictured with the maroon vinyl.

    tks!
    Eric

+1 how wide is it, and how much per yard/meter?
Or is it not necessary to post a price in this forum?

The fabric is 59" wide, and it takes one yard to do a pair of sport or normal seats. You can turn the fabric either way for your inserts as well...which is why I had it woven that wide. And there's a MAJOR reason for that.....

Tony's my distributor and does all the work for those in the US. I'm happy to deal with those outside of the US.

The price is admittedly "stupidly" expensive at $400 a yard. It was the best I could do.

As I posted in the original thread on how I did the stuff... I'm on the manufacturing side of the apparel industry and have quite a few contacts, which did me absolutely zero good in this case. The overall need I established at "any" price including bargain basement... wasn't really all that high. A few yards here and there quite literally. So there was no need to ramp up for a thousand yard run. Try to find someone who will do a small run.. it's next to impossible. I knew that I wanted to do 6 colors to duplicate the original, and considering that I'm such a freak for originality I knew it had to be exactly the same yarn size, twist, thread count, etc etc. I also knew that if I didn't do it right that I would get "called out" on it, which wasn't tolerable.

So, I spent a year trying to find someone who would do a small run of multiple colors. Finally found someone. Development costs, meaning lab dips of the colors, labor hours to tear down the original product, find and have custom woven the right yarn size in each color, then weaving time on the loom for tests to see what the right tension was on the loom to factor for shrinkage (yes this fabric is washed and finished, it doesn't bleed). At the end of the day, for the amount of yardage I had produced this was not an economically wise thing for me to do, but I did end up getting my own colors I wanted for my car and my sons project.

The one thing I can say, is that I've got the houndstooth from EVERY other mill or person who has ever sold this stuff (and said it was "original"), and none of it specs out as comparable to the original except for mine.

As far as reproductions go, it's interesting as I was able to have made the correct muffler tips (with a lot of hand work as well) for what is considered a reasonable amount of money. Go figure....

Thanks for allowing me to blather...

    Eric
