plumbing forward coolers in SWB ?

tried a search & came up empty. the patient is a '66 912.
progress continues; the '72 oil reservoir is mounted. i will be installing twin forward coolers. looking for ideas (and hopefully images) of custom made hard lines to the front. i understand that standard 3/4" copper plumbing tube can be used. pros or cons ?
tips re: mating lines to rubber hose / fittings, etc.
any help appreciated.

Hi Jerry,

If you want to make your own lines I can help with the brazed on end fittings for the hard lines. If you go with the .75" tubing you will need to machine out the M26 size fitting to roughly 19mm. The fittings used are M26x1.5 for the 18mm OD tubing and M30x1.5 for the 22mm tubing. The 72s and ST used the larger 22mm OD tubing and M30 fittings. Using the .75" tubing puts you in the middle around 19mm OD. I would check your coolers and see if they are setup for M26 or M30 fittings and let that direct you on the tube size etc. In the long run it may be easier to go with metric tubing.

Thanks for the referral Grady. We have a complete plumbing kit for the '72, and it is designed to work with a '72 oil filter console converted to be a thermostat. We do the conversion on the console too.

Given that your car is a '66, will you be using a '72 console or do you have another thermostat in mind? The attached CAD image is our standard '72 kit, but we can work up a custom to fit whatever thermostat you have in mind.
