    How to remove rear bumperettes

    Hi.
Maybe a simple question however, after searching, I didn't found the answer for it.

How can I remove the rear bumperettes from my 1970 911 T?
One of the previous owners painted all chromes black, so I want to strip off the paint.
Do I need to remove the muffler?

    Thanks for your help.

Jose if bumperettes are the same as bumper guards, than on top you will find 2 holes w/ (Allen) bolts and bottom one bolt.

They were very easy to find. I just pull the seal up and there were they.

By the way... I also want to strip the black paint from the engine grill. Does the "net" grill behind the "parallel" grill is black or should I strip it also? If so, any ideas? They're a unique piece, I don't think I can separate them.

    Thank you.

The bumperettes were the easy part! Undoing a molested grill can be difficult depending on how aggressive the idiot was that painted the bright work on the grill.

First of all, the mesh behind the bars is a satin black. (it turns flat with age).

Before you get to removing the black paint from the bars, if the paint on the mesh is good, try to slide shirt cardboard or masking tape between the bars and the mesh to keep the black on the mesh. Use a chemical stripper and soft tools or cloths to remove the paint from the bars.

HOPEFULLY...I say hopefully, the previous guy did not rough up to bars before painting. You will soon find out as the paint comes off.

If the bars are still bright just carefully remove the black paint and use a very gentle polish on the bars. Those bars are bright dipped anodizing like the window trim and aggressive abrasion will remove it. The vertical bars (three on a '70-'71) are also satin black. The paint may come off of those stripping the bars, and you may then have to go back and mask the bars to respray the verticals. The original fasteners holding the grill onto the lid were low head 5mm allen with a rubber washer between the grill and lid, a 5mm fender washer, and 5mm nylon locking nut....all yellow zinc.

If the guy sanded the bright bars....you are pretty much screwed. I've never done it, but the bars are crimped onto the verticals, and one could CAREFULLY pry them apart. Once the bars are off they can be re-bright dipped. Very few places do it...King of Trim in North Hollywood, Marcos Celiiak is the owner. Bead blast the mesh and verticals, repaint satin black, remount the fresh bars. Ugh! Call EASY, Parts Heaven or DC Automotive for nicer used grill!
