2 liter and 2.2 main bearings

Are all created equal or are some better than others?

My local mechanic tells me that quality has gone down. He said they've had a difficult time sourcing reliable sets, especially for use in racing engines. As a frame of reference - a friend who uses one of his carbureted 2L racing engines dynos at about 250 hp.

I did not ask for further details or specifics.

Mains have been OK: rod bearings have been problematic.

If you buy the mains and rod bearings at the dealer, you'll get the best ones that are available. PAG QC's each & every bearing shell, something not done with aftermarket ones which have slipped in quality.

The only other option is have your crank modified for NASCAR Clevite racing bearings and use a set of custom rods.

Interesting point, Steve. Some years ago, I bought a set of main bearings after having my case reamed to 0.25 oversize. Each pair came from Porsche separately packaged. I guess I know why, now.
