FWIW the aftermarket exhaust fitted to my old S cammed engine provided enough mid range 'oomph'to make the power curve a lot more linear....Is yours standard?

Sure it's an S cammed motor? How's your state of tune?

But it sounds like even by 5500 there is no step up in performance. My 2.7 RS spec with S cams starts to come in just after 4500, I would say from memory. It really gets good around 5000. Torque peak is around 5500, if I remember correctly.

My 2.2 S was very flat before 4500, and in fact had to be kept spinning to really perform. 2.4S not so much and my 2.7 has lots of torque from 3500 on, it has the original 2.4S cams and MFi. Much less peaky than the 2.2S

My 2.2S was a dissapointing performer until at least 5000 rpm. If you can stand to keep it spun up between 5-7K it's the best thing going...

Here is a dyno sheet of my 2.2S motor with stock intake and stock exhaust. My motor has always felt fairly strong throughout the rev range, but it pulls best from about 4,700 RPM. The dyno chart bears this out too.
