    1970 Metallic Red 8181 / 021

    Okay - I just got the COA on my 1970E. Findings - Engine numbers match and the original color was Metallic Red and not burgandy as I had thought. I've found only a couple pictures of Metallic Red and they appear to be repaints. Does anyone have access to pictures that they believe to be original paint and also where they feel that the picture captures the tone of the color correctly. I can't tell if the color has a little pink in it or maybe a bit or orange. The few pictures I've found are remarkably different.

    Any help would be really appreciated. The question is if I want to do the paint in the original color.

    Thoughts??

    Alex, search for the "Hester" threads. I believe she's Metallic Red.

    Hi Michael - I just read through that thread - Which was really fun. I think Hester was repainted and do you notice how different the color looks from picture to picture? I'm trying to get a better sense of the color by seeing a few more pictures. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction though.

    Not a 911 but I believe this is metallic red.
    From the Fantasy Junction site a while ago.

    There was one recently for sale on EBay the past couple of week in this color. The car was in Arizona. Just do a search for completed sales on EBay. I think it was a 70 or 71T

    Hi Everyone - I'm started to like the color. I'll post the version of the color that I'm drawn to. The question is if this is enhanced by the sun too much. I found a nice patch under the hood and was able to clean it up and get a nice face to face with the original. It has quite a bit of orange undertones to the color and certainly is not as "metallic" as I would have guessed.

    Does anyone know what is the correct supplier for this paint. It doesn't seem to be a glasurit color. Thoughts?

    Do you have the original badge/decal on the drivers door hinge post? It should read 8181-? Hester was 8181-H (H=Herberts)

    Sadly, at some point in the past the car was de-badged during a repaint. Assuming there is no way to find out for sure who the original supplier was - from today's perspective does anyone know who supplies the best and most accurate version of the paint. This is a metallic finish so I'm assuming this is not going to be the typical glasurit 22 - but I'm just guessing.

    Anyone have any experience on this for Metallic Red 8181 / 021 ???
