    SCCA Ice Races

Another fabulous day on the ice. Ice conditions were near perfect today and we had the best course set up I've ever seen. We had the entire lake to ourselves and the course was over 2 miles in length. The back turn went around a small island - it was like about a 1/4 mile long Tanner Foust drift going around the island!

Some tough competition lined up in front of my 30 year old bucket of bolts ... Audi S4, Mitsu Evo, STi

Somehow, I was pretty sure this wasn't going to work out well He was running BF Goodrich G-Force Sport summer tires. He had to be pushed out of a couple inches of snow. Luckily, he decided to park it after practice ....

There was one other 'real' Audi there (5-cylinder quattro):

Ross Lake in Beaverton if you remember where that is. I was fairly pleased with my times. The STi's and Evo's are really tough to compete against. It's like running a stock early 911 against a 997. The early car is lots more fun, but you need to work it hard. The only guy with an equivalent car was a long-time ice racer in a 4000 quattro and I was 7 seconds faster than him on the 4-minute course. I beat one of the Mitsu Evo's and one of the Audi S4s. But I got my hat handed to me by 5 Subie WRX's and a few others!! We'll be back there in 2 weeks and I'm going to push hard - go fast or crash

Into a pile of snow. Getting some practice for the Lake Mills event? Looks like fun. What were you/they using for tires unstudded snow tires or something different?

Everybody runs unstudded winters. We're not allowed to plow a track either. Just set the cones and go. The first couple of practice laps were very fast on top of an inch of snow. The rest of the day was just like Lake Mills last year - NHL Stanley Cup ice.

You girls on the other side of the lake better find a Walmart parking lot to practice doughnuts or something. I may have 5 events in before the Lake Mills 500

A few more pics and a video. Spent today hand-cutting a set of dedicated ice tires for the non-studded class.
