    I did this on my '68, almostblue, and it's a very simple, one piece affair. You can buy a set of H4's with the chrome rings easily for around $250 each new, and they just clip on to the top ridge of the light bucket, and are secured with a single screw through the bottom part of the trim ring. If you prefer a totally original Euro look, you need a set of old H1's, and they install exactly the same way. I have H4's on my car, but also a set of H1's for originality's sake, as the lenses are a little different. Hope this helps. The Pelican part number is 0-301-800-101-M14 for reference, but they are obviously available from different sources, and perhaps even used if you ask around. As for selling/trading your parts, who knows. Most anything is needed by someone, you just need to find that person!

    thank you 68911USA - I have the original headlamps with the larger sugarscoop chrome rings in a box (I have no idea what to call these lamps)
    Currently on the car are more modern H4's with chrome rings from a later model 911.
    So I may have the chrome rings I need.. but to get the proper flat look, I need the lenses, which eem to be available as OEM.
    I have no clue what lamps to buy (don't care about originality at this point). I was wondering if the lamps that were in the original sugarscoop chrome rings could be used together with the chrome rings and a new set of clear lenses. I may ask EASY, our local source. Really nice guys.

    What year? The early swb had a forward glass and a crappy dot sealed beam behind it, you mention Sugar scoop, that came out in 68 also crappy sealed beams for the us.
    As above the H4 is a great way to change it up and get improved lighting without paying the big bucks for the H1's the true early euro light.
    When you buy H4's they are complete other than the headlight to fender gasket (a couple bucks) and it will mount to the swb fender.
    The Sugarscoop "stuff" will not work with the early pre 68 headlamp housing / glass.
    I have the H4's on a 66 & lucky that the 67 swt came with H1's.

    What ever you do (even keeping sealed beams, install relays, remove all the current from the headlight switch!!

    Regards

    thank you for the tips / info
    it is a 1968 911S softy - so of course euro delivery
    probably will rarely if ever drive at night, so strongly prefer the look of the crappy sealed beam behind the glass over the modern h4

    Shouldn't a 68S have H 1's?

    I have a pair of the earlier type lights with the clear lenses available.

    Regards

    To use your H4 rims, clear lenses and sealed beams[or whatever you put in them] you will need the US inner pieces-bucket and sealed beam holders. Beetle and 356 usually have a parking bulb socket in the bucket that is different from 911 which doesnt have it. I can supply the needed parts or excellent H1s. 2nd photo is of lights I made for my 67 using H4 lights with flatter early 911 Euro lenses and bulbs with removable yellow globes.

    @66S
    The lights in the Top picture are not standard to the SWB, they are the 911R and 911ST version with Cibie Bi-Iode sealed beam units in them. Are they for sale

    @almostblue
    picture of the SWB USA spec light with sealed beam below on the top.
    Not sure how you use your SWB, but if you drive it on "not so well lit roads" in the evening, you would be far better off with the H4's.

    You could just replace the H4 light with a Beetle Bosch or Hella lamp glass. It won't cost you much and will look flat like the USA SWB and still have good lighting.
    Bottom picture shows H4's with a Beetle Bosch lampglass.
