    New Tires?

    Hey Folks

It's time for a fresh set of rubber. I was running the Yokohama ES100, 245/45/16 and 225/45/16 on the 8x16 and 9x16 rims that came with my RS clone. The previous owner managed to squeeze those under the wheel wells but just. I've been doing more DEs than anything but still a little touring. Any opinions on a great tire? I checked out Tire Rack but couldn't find anything in a full set for my sizes. Kumho seems to have some.

    Suggestions? Opinions? Thank you.

Look elsewhere on the internet. Tire Rack doesn't seem to carry these sizes. Try typing the above tire size in your search engine.

So far this is not looking good. I've checked:

    Goodyear
    Continental
    Yokohama
    Michelin
    Hankook
    Dunlop
    BF Goodrich
    Firestone
    Cooper

I can't get both sizes in one brand. Only a couple brands had either.

    I did find them in:

    Toyo Proxes T1Rs
    Kumho Ecsta Supras

Anyone have an opinion on these? Should I start looking for different sized rims? Maybe I go to RSR flares and go really big!

    Thanks for any feedback.

I did this search on Google:

    http://www.google.com/search?q=245-4...946aa513ef4809

The 225-45-16/245-45-16 combo is the tough part. You might have just slightly more luck with a front 205-55.

I use the Yokohama Advan A048 from Tire Rack but in 205-55-16 and 225-50-16

Okay. After hours of searching, if I really want to stick with 225/45/16 and 245/45/16s, it looks like the choices are:

    Kumho Ecsta Supras
    Toyo Proxes T1Rs
    or
    Toyo R888s

I'm not hearing good things about the Kumhos. The R888s are very serious. How are they in the rain? I'm leaning toward the T1Rs.

I use the T1R's in a few different sizes on a few different cars. They're my favorite street tire and do great in the rain. I have no experience with them on the track.

Some folks say they have soft sidewalls, which they do, but I just add a few extra psi of air to make up for that.

    I love 'em.

Edit: If you're doing mostly DE's then I'd go with the R888's out of the tires you listed above.

The search is still on but I'm getting closer.

No more Kumho Ecsta Supras. No more Toyo Proxes T1Rs. Both discontinued. I'm leaning toward Toyo R1Rs now. And I'm giving up on the 245/45/16 rears and 225/45/16 fronts. It's almost impossible to find those sizes now. I'm considering

    205/50/16 fronts
    225/50/16 rears

My dilemma now is rims. I have 2 sets. 7 and 9x16 and 8 and 9x16. I can get away with the 7s for the front but 9 might be a stretch for the rears.

What might the consequences be of mounting 225/50/16s on a 9 inch wide rim?

    Thanks for the feedback.
