As pre 1973 Porsche 911s have skyrocketed in value, many collectors and enthusiasts have started to look at the Porsche of the late 70’s to the late 80’s for fun affordable collectables. This 12-year period Porsche was noted for making some of the most reliable and well-built cars they had ever created…even to this day. I have countless clients who have gone 200k, 300k, even 400k miles on the original motor. They are built like tanks. Of all of these cars, the ones referred to as the “G50” cars are become the most desirable. From 1987-mid 1989, Porsche stopped making their own transmissions and outsourced the job. The result was one of the most durable transmissions they had ever built. Some of the 1987 models were known for valve issues, but by 1988 and 1989, these cars were completely sorted out. Half way through their 1989 production year, Porsche ended the Carrera model and began production on the 964 C4. The result is that there are very few available. Specifically, Porsche only built 1,156 coupes for our market. They built nearly 3 times as many open roof cars during that period. This car is one of the last 200 built.
The mostly original paint, low miles, rare special Porsche paint color, custom ordered interior and great ownership history makes this coupe even more collectible and desirable.

The current owner of the Carrera purchased the car in 2003. It had 75k miles on it when he bought it. He only used the Porsche for weekend cruising. The clutch had been replaced just before he purchased the car. Over the past 8,000 miles, he has done all the necessary oil changes as well as a major service. Also, he spent approximately $3,000 redoing the entire brake system.
We just had our mechanic check over the car and he gave it thumbs up. The only thing he found was the high beams weren’t working so we replaced the turn signal/headlight switch system. We then took the car to D&S Air in Costa Mesa. D&S are one of the best local A/C guys around. They are known for making air conditioning work in the oldest of cars. He went through the whole system, recharged the R12 (which is much better for the old Porsche systems), and ran dye through it to verify no leaks. The system works great and blows ice-cold.
Finally, we had all the tiny chips and normal road rash professionally touched-up so the car looks as original as possible.
The Fuchs displayed on the car are from another Porsche and are available for an additional fee. They are 7x16s and 8x16s. The 7’s are date stamped 1983 and the 8s are older reproduction wheels. The car comes with the later factory Porsche 17” wheels.
This Carrera comes with the original owner’s manuals and an extra key.
California registration is good through June 2011.
This car is in great condition and ready to be enjoyed.
