    Opinions on window tinting.

Being a Nevada resident, window tinting is allowed here. Even the NHP has 20% on their cruisers. So, the valley gets warm in the summer months, even a few days in the triple digits.
Cutting to the chase, what are views on tinting windows on a 40 year old car? Does that desicrate the vintage pedigree, help preserve the interior from UV like a modern car, or no effect either way?

i am interested in this as well. i have just finished buying a full set of factory green tint windows for my car (they were an option right back to the earliest days). I was planning to fit them when i have the interior all redone in leather to help protect it from the harsh Australian sun. (not unlike yours) I will keep the original glass so it can all be (fairly easily) put back to clear glass. I have been told that the factory green glass makes a reasonable difference to both the potential sun damage and the heat inside the car. The only downside is i will have to get another early S decal for the window!

so i will also be interested to see what comments this thread provokes

    Stig,
There are a couple of things to consider.
Firstly as we all know, the standard ventilation on our cars is rather appalling.
Secondly a high proportion of our cars have black or a dark interior colouring.
These two factors combine to make any real effect of tinted glass irrelevant on a warm day.
As Hugh knows,in our part of the world over the last 20/30 years, there has been a marked increase in ultra violet rays coming through and thus compounding this heating effect.
Having said that,my car was a UK delivery and as such had tinted glass as standard.
I like the look of the tinted windows and am in no hurry to change them over regardless of how hot I get ....

    HTH,
    Dennis.
