    Early targas: newbie question

What a great site! I have lurked before but now joining.

Let me intro myself: I am a long time Porsche enthusiast, starting with a '84 cab decades ago, then a 993tt (still have) and currently have a couple really nice 356's. I love the 356's.

Now I really want an early 911.

I am thinking of a car to use commuting in good weather, some rain, but want top down.

I am deciding between a '67/68 soft rear window targa or the swb glass rear or the '69-later glass rear ones.

Is there a preference between these types of windows? Do the targas really leak? Would they be suitable for a daily use car?

And is the soft rear window more of a convertible experience? And the hassle of raising/lowering mean you basically keep it in one position?

I like the looks of the swb soft window targas when all the tops are off/down, but the glass lwb targa when the rear window is on. Does the soft one really feel like a convertible even with a tall driver, seat pushed all the way back?

(I would still get one even if the answer was no to daily use, but I would like to drive a more classic convertible, with my default getting a newer porsche cab or a mini convertible, as I want to have fun on my drive).

Finally, any really nice ones out there? And is it worth "hot rodding" the engine some?

Many thanks and I look forward to the community! (I am also going to post a RS and hotrod question)
