    Key fob/pouch question

    Hallo !

    I'd like to understand something:
the left pouch in my photo is the normal one i always saw.. maroon interior, plain leather, etc

BUT the right one has a very peculiar leather, identical to my 1968 elephant hide type.... I know that it's original but somebody can help me with the correct period?

ps: the external dimension are identical ( i know that in photo it doesn't seem..)

    Thanks a lot
    Andrea

Carl Bauer at orange bar products did alot of research when he made his replicas. The answer may be in the thread that he made while producing them.

As per Harvey, Carl has done alot off research on his project.

My original, me being second owner, '69T has an "elephant" or buffalo hide tool kit bag, but smooth original key pouch.

These accessory things were made from whatever they had around. An educated guess would be the buffalo stuff was left over and would probably date from late'68 to early '69...as they went to the waffle stuff beginning in '69.

This is correct from what I've seen. Porsche weren't interested in matching interior material textures with the key pouch leather, they simply pulled the pouch off the top of the pile and that was the one you got.

I did notice when Porsche changed from the all metal keys to the plastic headed keys they most likely changed the key clasp at the top. They went from a ring type clap (65-69) to a hinge style clasp (70-73) See below.

I've also noticed that the crest stamp changed once on the factory pouches but I'm not really sure which is earlier or later. They are very similar but there are minor detail differences.
