    Question Splish, Splash....oops I have a leak.

    Howdy,

I have a water leak and I am at a loss! My 68 Coupe after a lovely Seattle Monsoon, has about an inch of water on the rear floors.

I just had the front windshield replaced and had the rear window reinstalled, both with factory Seals and done at Professional Auto Glass. No water is anywhere near those to window openings. It was leaking water through both before the fix. However, I'm still getting water after a heavy downpour. The rear passenger seat, also has water beneath it, not much, but a little.

The floors were redone by the previous owner and I have also installed new door seals (later style) but noticed that there is some dampness at the base of the door sill on the carpet, however, given the volume of water, I'm still dumbfounded as to where it's coming from.

    Any helpful hints?

Thanks so much in advance, and I am so desperately looking forward to summer!

What I always do is take it to the car wash and get some one to sit inside while you mimic the rain. That way you can see if you have any water leaking around the door seals etc.

Since I fixed the seals, the car wasn't leaking under normal rain, however last night we had severe rain and that's when the water collected. I'll try the car wash and report back.

    Thanks!

Mine both leak from behind the door panels... Even with well sealed plastic and good exterior rubbers. I learned a trick indirectly from Ed Mayo that I'm going to try next time the door panels are off. Instead of just a single sheet of plastic over the inner door, make a flap on the inside of the plastic at the big openings in the steel, so the flap laps over the inside of the opening, and the main sheet over the outside. Picture a tent. The flap acts as a deflector to keep water from getting between the main plastic and the steel inner door.

If the rear jump seats have water then it must be coming from a higher scource, since the water couldn't jump up to the rear seats from the floor. Most likely from the rear quarter glass or the rear window. Take out the rear parcel deck panel (probably needs drying out anyway) and do what Tony suggested. This way you can see if it's coming in around a seal. If some of the water is coming from the front look at the fresh air drain box under the vent in the cowl. Follow the vent tube down into the smuggler's box to see if it's been damaged and the water can enter the floor from the bottom of the smugglers box. Especially if the car ever had AC installed.

Thanks for the Kudos Mike, but actually that was the way originally done by Porsche. I just make sure to put them back that way.

If you have a sunroof - check the seals and drains. If you don't have a sunroof - check all seals and install a drain.

Reviving an old thread, because my doors are leaking water also. Can someone post a photo of the description given above for installing the inside plastic sheet correctly?
