    68 911 "coughs" on acceleration

My 68 911 runs well for the most part but sometimes "coughs, sputters, hesitates", at low or mid range rpm when accelerating from low speed. Once it coughs a time or two it catches and pulls and revs up strong and smooth from 3500 to 7000 rpm.

Seems to be fuel (Weber) related and wanted to know if anyone has some common things to check to correct this.

    Thanks in advance

    Gary

Sounds like clogged idle jets to me. The idle jets control fuel air mixture to a surprisingly high rpm. Very common for debris, either rust or other sentiment in the fuel or rust from the air cleaner to enter the carb and lodge in the tiny idle jet orifice. The jets are easily removed and can be blown out with air to clean them. I can check and clean all six jets in 3 minutes.

Tom, are the idle jets just screwed in and out ? When they`re replaced do they have to be `set`(adjusted) so the carbs run as they did ?

    Regards, Mike.
