Window winders won't roll up window on SWB

    Hi all-
Has anyone ever experienced a situation where window will roll down incredibly easily but won't rollup without assisting with your hand. Turning the winder crank has little to no effect and i don't want to strip the threading.

New car so I don't know the history. More or less identical condition on both doors.

I assume the issue is b/c the window gearing and levers inside the door are worn/stiff from use/disuse and gravity being what it is makes rolling down easy and rolling up difficult. But is there a simple fix without having to replace the window mechanism? Tried WD40 on the turning parts that I could actually see/access. Maybe that will make a difference. But if anyone has any better ideas would much obliged for any tips.

356 models used a drift pin instead of a screw to fasten the winder to the winder receptacle in the door mechanism to eliminate the possibility of stripping the threads and I'm wondering if I could machine a similar set up here?? This seems like a better approach and I wonder why Porsche changed the application??

    Many thanks,
    Al

You probably have a broken spring retainer on the regulator. Remove the door panel and fish around the bottom of the door for loose parts. It's a cheap fix.

Is it this part: http://www.sierramadrecollection.com..._detail&p=2112 ??
Interestingly enough the parts diagram doesn't show it but is the part in the same part in this pic (see red arrow)?

If so, what do I need to remove to replace/access the spring? Can be done blindly reaching behind?
    Many thanks!

Spring retainer; not the spring. Also called the regulator pivot.

Try inspecting the felt line channel in which the window slides. If there is binding anywhere lifting the window can be difficult. If all looks ok, shoot the felt material with silicon spray; this was all I needed to do to get the effort required with the handle to a reasonable level. You may still have a hardware issue but these are easy things to check.

It is at the center of the spring; inspect and see that the spring is retained properly.

I had both my windows exhibit your symptoms and then the pivot pin broke. I posted this at the Bird to help out folks:

    Hi:

That is a pivot pin. They come in 4 flavors and you will need to look at your to figure out which one you will need.

You will need to remove the door card and regulator to figure out what you need to do.

It is not hard (I have done both of mine).

This article tells you how to remove the door card:

This article tells you how to remove your window regulator:

There are lots more as well if you do a search.

I don't know where your link takes you but you need to go to this page: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/...pg3.htm#item12 and find the four kinds of Pivot pins (PEL-910391 or 910392 or 910393 or 910391). One of them will fit your regulator.
