Good local source for early front and rear windshield installation

I'm doing a restoration on my 1970E and the windshield has rock chips and the rear glass is all scratched up so I'm inclined to replace both when the glass is out for paint. Any good ideas on where to get and have installed the right stuff?

    Best,

    Alex

I'd just look in the yellow pages and or Angie's List for the local companies in your area that do this. I think most will come right out to your house and do it. Make sure to reiterate this is an early car with non glued in glass to make sure they are familiar. Maybe ask your local PCA chapter if you are a member. It's not that it is that hard of a task but there definitely is a learning curve and someone that does it a lot will do a better job without risking breaking the glass.

I would never take my car to someone I found in the yellow pages or on some list. I only go to shops that I am positive they know their early car business.

We have some great Porsche shops around that can send you to the right place. I only go to Mark at Eurotech Bodywerkes for my windshields.

Who is painting your car? Shouldn't they be able to install?

Scott, you just rephrased what I said above, agreed.....the place needs to be familiar with how to install these types of windows. Again, it's not rocket science.....

Not to be argumentative, but I am not rephrasing what you said above. My point was to not go by what some random shop says they can do. Get a solid recommendation from someone you trust. I trust many shops in the area. I trust fellow early car owners (which are not really PCA people). I don't trust yellow pages or other lists where the self-referral is unknown.

It's not rocket science, but I have seen some bad installations.

    Alex,

I used these guys on my 68. I purchased the OEM seals from Pelican and had Professional Auto Glass install a new windshield and reseal the rear. Came highly recommended by Walker, and they did a fantastic job on mine. Good luck.
