    ex-Brumos Porsche 1973 911 Peter Gregg
While I working at the dealership directly in front of the Brumos Race Shop, at 5th and Main, Jacksonville, Fl., in early 1973, upon occasion I remember seeing Peter Gregg, owner of Brumos Porsche drop by to check in on the progress of the new Porsche Carrera RS Race Car being prepared at the Brumos Race Shop. During this period of time Gregg had Dave Kent, well known California craftsman for his fabrication and painting skills, flown to Jacksonville to do the art work and painting of three cars for Brumos. The first was the Carrera RS Race Car, second was the 917/10 Can/Am Race Car and third was the Porsche 911 that was to be Greggs personal car during this time. The design for these three cars came from then Brumos General Manager, Bob Snodgrass. The famous Brumos Red & Blue Stripes were emblazened on the bodies of those three cars by Dave Kent, in Poly Urethane, early January, 1973. The Can/Am Race Car and the 911 street car were then shown at the new car show at the Jacksonville Collisium in Jan. 1973.
During this period in time Gregg, along with Hurley Haywood won both the 24 Hours of Daytona and the 12 Hours of Sebring, bringing Porsche it's first International Endurance Wins in a Production Based Car.
The car being offered here is the very car that Peter Gregg utilized daily during the infamous period of time for Brumos Racing. Originally, the car was equipped from the Porsche Factory according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as follows: Engine #6139484, Trans # 630619, Exterior: Light Ivory/11, Interior to sample/99, Option Group H43, Light Metal Wheels, Stabilizer Bars-F/R, Becker Radio'Europa', Rear Spoiler, Manual Antenna & Noise, Suspression, Air Conditioning w/Crash Bin, Retangular White Fog Lights-Halogen. It is Chassis # 9113103352.
The stripes were added and I personally saw this car in Gregg's hand several times during early 1973.
I spoke directly with Hurley Haywood about this car. Haywood stated that he remembered Gregg having had a white 911, with the Red & Blue Stripping during early 1973. Although he had thought that it was remembered that car as being Gregg's wife at that time, Jennifer's car. He also stated the traditionally Gregg would have driven the best Porsche available at any particular time. It was pointed out that rather than a 911S, this being a 911T might have been utilized by Gregg because both Haywood and Gregg won the 1972 IMSA Championship in a Porsche 911T. Hurley suggested I contact Jack Atkinson, at that time was Gregg's Racing Crew Chief at Brumos Racing.
I not only knew Jack, I also know his assistants, Eckard Schneider, Dale Carson, Jr. and the guy who cleaned up the shop, a fellow named Doc Bundy. I spoke with Jack Atkinson. Jack had kept a log of all of what was done by Brumos Racing at that time. Jack said that he had remembered Dave Kent painting three cars for Gregg, one being a white 911 street car. But he could not remember Gregg driving a white 911 during that time.
Next, I contacted Doc Bundy. Doc stated that he remembered Greggs car during that particular time. He stated that Gregg had driven a white 911, with the Brumos stipping on it to Sebring for the 12 Hours weekend. Doc was asked by Gregg to move his car. Being a sportomatic, when Doc moved the shifter nothing happened. Hence he thought that he had broken the gear box! That thought always stuck in Doc mind and he always remembered this car with it's odd green leather interior (special ordered by Gregg for this car).
The cars ownership from now back to Brumos is fully documented (in detail), back to the first buyer, Ed Rivers, a parapalegic whom raced the car in SCCA, with hand controls, whom Bill Benker (Brumos utility guy and former National Champion in his day) delivered the car to later in 1973, a subsequent owner whom also raced the car in SCCA, Phil Odell, right on through all ten owners.
The car was equipped with Sportomatic Trans, Fuel Injection, S Brakes, S Front Spoiler, S 15 mm Front & Rear Sway Bar, Sun Roof, Factory Sport Seats (Racaro) Green Leather, 6" & 7" Fuchs Wheels, Heated Rear Window and Power Windows. The car retains the original Engine Casing at 2.7 liters. It has Webers and a Five speed. The Green Leather has been replaced by a Hounds Tooth cloth interior. The Becker Radio is no longer in place, but the painted on Brumos stripping is!
The car runs great, fast! It does smoke briefly on startup, then clears up. It shifts, brakes and does everything else fine. The car has a total of 98,708 miles on it. There is a very small, half dime dent in the hood (did not break the paint) and a paint chip on the bottom of the drivers door. There are small chips behind the rear tires and a very few on the bottom of the front spoiler.
Truly a piece of the Porsche Racing Great, Peter Gregg's life during his most famous period of time. Please contact Ralph Thomas, (828) 526 4975 or argo19c@aol.com for more information and further photos

Anyone have photos from this car show ? And I wonder why the seller did not post a photo of the COA. It would definately lend credibilty to this history , if it does show rear spoiler on the COA :

"Originally, the car was equipped from the Porsche Factory according to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity as follows : ...............Rear Spoiler........."

The silver car above is the car featured in Excellence this month and is very authentic. The white car has an interesting story and should be easy to authenticate given the number of people mentioned in the ad. It really doesn't seem to be a true "Gregg Car" and has no real history. Although I am sure that someone will be very proud to own it at the right price...my $.02.

Missing 3 critical components; MFI, green leather and Sporto.

Raj, why do you think it was converted to a 2.7?
