Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, July 23rd and 24th, 2011.

The Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is actually much more than just a two day weekend of car shows and races. It's a 10 day motorsports festival that is unlike any other vintage car event in the world. This year Porsche will be marque of the year and the Allegheny Region of the Porsche Club of America has lots in store. This is shaping up to be THE Porsche gathering of 2011. Spotlight this year will be on The Cars of Caroll Shelby.

Since 1983, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix has raised over $2 million dollars for charity. The event is free to the public to attend. All proceeds from the races, car shows, merchandise sales, and donations are all to the benefit of the Allegheny Calley School and the Autism Society of Pittsburgh. Unlike like many vintage races which are held on closed tracks, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix is held on city streets in the beautiful Schenley Park. Through out the Schenley Park Golf Course you will find the International Car Show. Vehicles from every corner of the globe are represented over the course of the 10 day festival.

If you have never attended the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix, I highly suggest adding it to your calendar. You won't be disappointed.

Here's the full schedule for 2011.

I definitely think that the East Coasters should road trip it out to this event. I am planning on bringing the Bugatti Type 51 for the Schenley Park races. I lived in Pittsburgh in the mid 80's and saw the very first couple of events. A great venue that has gotten only better with age. Hope to see you guys there.

Let's do it. Pittsburgh is practically your back yard isn't it? Seeing the Hansen Type 51 is reason enough to make the drive!

The 356 POG (Potomac owners group) is planning a caravan up there, I'll be taking my " new" Speedster on its first road trip. We are all staying at the Hampton inn, with special rates. It would be nice to get us all at the same place. Move quick only 7 rooms left at the discounted rate.

This looks like it would be fun, although cruising the PA turnpike out to Pittsburgh in late July could be a very boring/sticky hot ride. Jim, maybe some alternate routes would be in order to get the blood moving and help keep the cabin cool.
