    Drive to Rennsport Reunion IV

    Drive to Rennsport Reunion IV

A few friends have been discussing the idea of a drive to Monterey for RRIV and would like to open this up to folks headed west for the event by road. This will be a back road tour from a meeting point in Durango, CO. How you get to Durango and pre- Durango rally points can be decided by the people from each of the regions. I will be departing DFW and will most likely meet up with the Austin folks en-route and am planning to pick up a couple more in Albuquerque, NM. Aaron will be departing from Charlotte, NC and anyone wishing to meet him along the way should coordinate directly with him. Scott Hanson will be coming from Chicago ...you get the idea.

Plan is to arrive Monterey Thurs Oct 13. This will set Durango meet up Oct 11 Depart 0darkhundred Oct 12.

The route will be from Durango to Cortez, CO, then US 666, Blanding, UT then some great red rock country to Cedar City, UT. From there we will head to Ash Springs, NV and the start of the Extraterrestrial Highway (NV 375) to 6 west and an overnight in Tonopha, NV. The next day will be a run west on 6 to Mono Lake and then 120 over Tioga Pass (Yosemite) and on to Monterey on 140, 59, 152, 156, 101,and 68.

Any one interested in joining this tour is welcome for some great roads and fun.

The ET Highway is very different from Southern Utah on one end of this drive or 120 over the Tiago Pass, but there is something very compelling about it.

...maybe the sign "SPEED LIMIT ENDS".

The hotels for the overnight stops in Durango, CO and Tonopah, NV have been set up with group rates and contracts.

First Durango, CO a contract has been signed and we have a block of 15 rooms at the Downtown Holiday Inn. This reservation is for 10/11/2011 and is at $135. Rooms must be booked by 9/11/2011 to get that rate. Our group ID is 'R-Gruppe Porsche Club' and the number to call for reservations is 866-306-5438.

This contract should be entered into their system by 4/14/2011; I will make my reservation to verify correct setup on that date and report. If more rooms are needed we can add some.

For Tonopah, NV we have a 15 room block at the Best Western Hi Desert Inn for 10/12/2011 at $77.00. This group ID is 'R- Gruppe' and the reservation phone number is 877-286-2208.

This group is available now and I have already made a reservation. This room block will be released 2 weeks prior to our arrival or 9/28/2011. As with our 10/11 overnight location if additional rooms are needed we can add to our block.

That pic of Aaron's car is one of my favourite shots.

John, it is desolate out there, but alluring in its stark beauty. I bet if you hop an airplane to Denver or Durango, you will find an open seat to ride in.

I'm going to the event, but I don't think I can get the time to drive it. This looks awesome, and if I can swing this, I will do it. Otherwise, anyone coming through Santa Fe is welcome to a beer on me.
