Correct carpet for a 70 E with tan vinyl?

I am wondering what color carpet should go in my 1970 E. The car originally had tan vinyl but I am going to do brownish tan leather on all the seats, parcel shelf and side panels. I would like to do an original style carpet kit but I don't have any of the original carpets. What carpet colors were used in '70 ? Should it be Charcoal? Brown? Any insight appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Scott

E got the thicker pile rug style, either tan, brown or black.
this is from 1971, but 1970 is similar:

My car had tan interior carpets... a previous owner dyed them black along the way and replaced the seats... as evidenced by the untouched edges under rear vinyl panel (and the Cardex). Threw them out years ago or I'd attach an image.

actually, i believe the parcel shelf wasn't always black.
Porsche brochures for the 2.2 show the tan interior, seats, rear seats, and entire parcel shelf (top and area behind the rear seats) all in tan. The only bits in black below the windows seem to be the interior door handles, pockets (x2), trim pieces between the windows and the side trim.

I have been researching the color of the parcel shelf as well.

I am just about to get the interior of my car (currently original tan leatherette) retrimmed in tan leather as some of the leatherette has passed its use by date and I cant get a match with the original due to different grains and, mostly, sun fade over the past almost 38 years.

my car has tan on the vertical part of the panel for the parcel shelf but black leatherette on the actual shelf. In looking at old brochures (like the one Paul posted above and the aubergine car in the 2.4 sales brochure) and original photos I have seen both tan and black parcel shelf treatment with a tan interior. i think that I have noticed a pattern however that with known leather interiors all the interior including the parcel shelf is done in the same colour but in other cases (possibly with the leatherette) the shelf is black. This seems to carry through to other cars with non black leather interiors (ie the ex Bruce Jennings car with the green interior)

I am therefore taking the leap and having the parcel shelf done in the tan leather to match the rest of the interior unless anyone can provide a rationale why it should stay with the current pattern of black and tan

My tan interior car has a light tan coloured carpet - there seems to be a number of "browns" used from the darker chocolate thru to the tan colour. It has been affected by sun throughout its life but looking at some that was hidden away under the dash it looks very similar in colour to the piece you can see on the RHS of the seat in the big picture posted by Paul above. However I also don't know if my current carpet is original

My replacement carpet (from Tony at Autobahn) is a bit more "brown" than that tan and similar to the "pile" sample in the photo above. I have never seen any samples that have the colour that mine seemed to have - and while it is very worn it seems more like a loop pile or the old square weave carpet than the pile carpet - although i don't think that was offered on cars as late as 1973.

I have photos of my 70 E coupe from the original owner and the hat shelf was originally tan as well. It was changed at some time to black (probably due to a lack of proper tan vinyl). Hugh, I'd love to see pictures of the carpets from Tony if you feel so inclined to post them.

Here's a shot of the interior set I got from Tony at Autobahn. Tan Vinyl upholstery with Camel domestic carpet. The cocomats I ordered elsewhere. Hope this helps.
