Do I keep my MSD ignition on my '66?

I've had a '66 911 for a couple of years with an MSD ignition set up which hasn't given me any problems whatsoever. However, I'm looking at restoring the car and taking it to as close as original as possible. If I do this, I will have to ditch the MSD system and revert to its original set up. I'd like to get the opinion of members in this forum. Which path do I take?

I don't know the answer, but I like your car collection. "Hmmm I'll take one of each please"

You could always hide it and nobody would ever know... I mounted dual MSD's in the fender wells of my V12 F-car and nobody ever noticed.

    Jay,

I would keep the MSD, paint it black and just hide it behind the air cleaner.

Jay: IMHO, go ahead and ditch the MSD. You don't need it. The Porsche Bosch units (either 3 or 6 pin) work just fine, and they're not "fakey-do."

I'm not familiar with the different kinds of MSD set ups but mine has a Blast 3 coil in the back and a pretty elaborate set up in front which I think might be a bit difficult to tuck in and conceal:

Bottom line is I'm wondering if performance might suffer if I revert back to the original set up. I'd like to know if those with the Bosch coil set up have not encountered too many problems.

Thanks guys for all your input.

Over the past 29 years, I've run my 914/6 (1991 cc) with permatune, MSD and Bosch CDs. In my experience they all provided adequate spark and no plug fouling. I didn't see any demonstrable difference in hp. Others may have different experiences, though.

The Multiple Spark Discharge (MSD) feature of the MSD ignition system only works below 2,900 (or is it 2,800?) RPM. Beyond that RPM the MSD should perform exactly the same as a stock system.

I believe that the MSD system was designed with large displacement, low revving V-8s in mind.
