Question Authoritative Sources for Available Wheel Widths - 1973 911S

I am trying to determine if 7jx15 Fuchs wheels were offered as a factory or dealer option for 1973 911S vehicles. I do know that the current versions of PET show a 7jx15 Fuchs wheel as an option, but I am trying to find some recognized sources that document the validity of a 7jx15 Fuchs wheel as a factory or dealer-installed option. Does anyone have any details and/or documentation they would care to offer?

    Very much appreciate the assistance.

    Toby,
They were not a option. Dealers installed them, but the clearance issues were too close for the factory.
There are at least two examples of "special wishes" cars that had the 25mm flairs for the 7s. They wouldn't be in the parts book.
The RS had them with their 50mm flairs and 7mm spacers. That is why they are in the 72-73 book at all.
8s were also offered late in the 73 production for the RSs.
We put on many 7s as soon as they were available, but not without clearance issues.

Thanks Harvey. I keep hoping I can find a valid reference that would indicate that 7jx15 wheels were offered by Porsche for the '73 911S. If I could find that reference, I could use a 9jx15 wheel on my prepared race car for PCA Club Racing. I may have to resign myself to staying with my 7jx15 and 8jx15 wheels. Thanks again for the info.

IMHO 7x15 and 8x15 is plenty for a 190hp motor. I consistently see and read about overtired cars. The only reason to exceed that size is more HP. The RSR's used 9" tires but they had 300HP. Tire technology has advanced so much that today's 7" tires are equivalent to the 9" tires of 30 years ago.
I'm running 6x16 and 7x16 on a 2.7 RS motor and find it very difficult to break them away except in wet conditions.
If every one else is running that size and it's down to driving.
Sorry I don't mean to be harsh but I hate seeing these roller skate looking cars.

    David,

No offense taken. If PCA will agree that a 7jx15 wheel was a vlid offering on '73 MY vehicles, this would allow me to use a 275/35-ZR15 tire on a 9jx15 wheel. Biggest change is the fact that the 275/35 tire is a full inch smaller than the existing 245/50 tire I run today on my prepared car. This is not about more HP, it's solely about improved cornering and quicker acceleration out of corners.

Why not run the 245/45. They are short. Or 225/45. They are really short..
Funny, The same wheel argument in 1973 and it still goes on...
BTW,we were only able to run 1" over stock. What class lets you run 2" over? The rules must have changed in 35 years...

    Harvey,

Hoosier only offers a 245 width in a 50 profile in a 15-inch diameter. If Hoosier offered a 245/45-ZR15, I'd be all over that! I run 225/45-ZR15's up front and 245/50-ZR15's out back. Regarding the extra TWO inches, since my car runs as a prepared car, I can go two inches wider than stock. Diameters are still free, but width is regulated.

    Toby,
Are you getting any wheelspin under acceleration with the tires you use? Does the car feel balanced?

    David,
No wheelspin and the car does feel balanced. A larger contact patch always provides a little more in the "courage" department when rolling through high-speed turns on-track!
