    quick tire question

Ive been searching without much luck, Ive got the original steelies on my 71t and the tires are really old. I just want to drive it for a while and would like a decent tire. I think the steel wheels are 5.5 all around arent they? 185/70/15 seems like an odd size at discount tire. What other options for size are out there and a tire recommendation would be great. Also, I once saw a pic of a bf goodrich tire with white lettering on a early 911. Looked pretty good What do you guys think? Thx

Search for the Vredestein Sprint Classic, it's available in 185/70/15.
The only other options are Michelin XWX or Pirelli Cinturato. The Michelin and Pirelli tyres in that size are quite expensive at about $400 per corner.
Vredestein is about 1/4 of that.

Original tyre size really gives it a better stance and fills out the wheel wells. Modern tyres with narrower sidewalls just don't look right on an early 911.

Thanks very much! Would you say 195/65/15 would not look right?

Depends on your definition of 'right'. 195-65 would 0.2" smaller diameter. Not a huge amount but it's just not the right stance. Also your speedometer would be off (depending on how accurate your gauges are to begin with).

Below is a comparison of the two tyre sizes. The 195-65 is a bit smaller. The 185-70 is white line around the black donut.

I think that the early cars look better with correct tyres.

and you can get a Vredestein Sprint Classic in a 165R15. Have a set on my '68...street use only, but it's been a very nice tire.

And to my eye it looks "really right."

I've had very good experiences with the Avon CR6ZZ in 185/70-15. It has a classic design, a 'modern' rubber compound and sticks quite well.

Forgot about the Avon CR6ZZ. I think AIM Tires in California carries them as a special order. I think in terms of price they're a bit more expensive than the Vredestein but less expensive than the Michelin or Pirelli.
