How to un-lower my front end

    Hi All,

My '66 911 has a slightly lowered front end that makes the car slightly raked toward the front. I was wondering if returning the car to it's original configuration is a major undertaking.

Pretty simple to adjust the torsion bars, but will probably require a re-alignment to be sure.

Lift front, in the front cross member there are slot's at rear of TB's, look up and will see a cap on the rear of the TB with arm and bolt through arm. Take socket and screw bolt clockwise to raise. Keep track of how many turns, I suggest 2-3 360's to start, lower car see if you like if not turn a couple more repeat until happy then do other side same amount of turns as first. Measure fender well height when done to fine tune. It is a VERY easy DIY 15-20 minute deal start to finish. As suggested front alignment would be good as would corner balance if your dead serious on optimal performance.

I have no problem with the theory that all men are created equal.

On a pre-'68 there are no slots. However there are cranks with adjusting bolts at the rear of the torsion bars. 17mm across the flats if I remember correctly. Often these adjustment bolts are frozen in the cranks from too many years of exposure to wheelspray and road grime. PowerBlaster, time, and perhaps some heat are your friends for turning these bolts. It is possible to adjust these bolts with the car sitting on the ground which will make the procedure simpler.

Granted after all these years your front bars may have sagged a bit bit of nose-down attitude is the factory spec so you may not want to level the car completely. My Factory Spec Book is out of reach right now so somebody please correct my tired memory which thinks the correct height to the bottom of the front fender is about 25".
