    Exhaust/Muffler straps

Looking for help to understand the correct straps to be used for a 1968 (May/June '68 build) with a standard Leistritz rear box. Tried a few searches without pulling up anything definitive.

Are the pair shown in the photo below correct?

If correct does anyone know the specification of the threaded bolt required to fasten?

If not correct can anyone post a picture of the correct ones I need to find?

Thanks as always for any help.

    Hi Tim

no real help from me.............. but they look identical to the ones i have on my 73 for my stock Dansk muffler. (only had them off a couple of weeks ago to replace it) If so I think the correct bolt is a M 10x50 pan head screw according to PET

AS long as they wrap around the muffler, and the muffler support bracket, with about an inch gap, then they're correct. There are identical looking straps for larger mufflers, hard to tell what these are without actually trying them on. The bolts were 10 x 1.50 mm thread pitch and were allen head (same as pan head?) I don't know the length from memory, around 60 mm or so, try that and see if they will be long enough to thread. The proper orientation for the strap is the bolts should be accessed from the front lower quadrant of the muffler. The bolts are not oriented towards the license panel. This is so when removing the engine the bolts don't catch on the panel. Use anti-seize on all fasteners!

Hugh/Ed/Richard - many thanks for your input.

Richard thanks for the pics - do you have the specific part number and more importantly can you still get them? Having tracked down an early '68 Leistritz I would really like to complete the set up correctly (I had a look on Pelican and the one they list for '65-'69 looks different).

    Thanks again.

You may find it easier to start with a longer bolt on each side to get things started more easily, get the straps sinched down, then install the correct type/length bolts one at a time on each side.
