Swepco or regular gear box oil?

So I just had my 65' transmission gone through and need to add oil. Any feeling about Swepco 201? The transmission was really in pretty good shape and not much needed replaced. Its going into storage for who knows when. Any thoughts.

Swepco certainly has its' adherents. I believe you should use the version which has the "EP" (extreme pressure) additives. These are needed to lubricate hypoid ring & pinion gearsets. A number of racers I know use Redline in their 901 gearboxes. I use Mobil 1 synthetic for the same reasons that my friends have chosen Redline (we believe synthetics work better with the synchronizers). I expect this subject can provoke passionate and prolonged debates so please not the liberal use of "I believe".

    good luck

I was looking for a good synthetic recommendation since the transmission is absolutely clean. Tumbled and all hardware replated.

For storage only I'd put something lighter weight in there so that it gets into all the nooks and crannies. Just make sure you put a BIG tag on there to remind you.

For storage? Anticorrosion aviation oil, Shell Fluid 2F. Fill the gearbox all the way up.

That's what I would do, and spray down the outside with cosmoline type anticorrosion fluid.

As noted, oils are a passion for many of us. My local advisor here inthe Portland Oregon area recommends the Dino SWEPCO 201 for the 901/915 boxes. There are others who recommend the Dino Kendall MS-NP product. Key issues area GL-5 rating to protect the R&P. I asked about Syns and they told me that due to how the 901/915 synchronzers work, the Syn oils are too slippery.
