    Are 6j x 16 Fuchs unpopular?

I've found some for sale used, but when I've tried to compare prices nobody seems to carry these. Am I missing something here?

If I read this right, 6x16 is a very common size because it was made for tons of SCs and Carreras. 6 and 7x16 are a dime a dozen (people upgrade to 7+8). As far as long hoods go, 16" wheels require a lower profile tire, and look a little funny on older cars, which traditionally run 15s (smaller wheel, taller tire)

Very true but I am happy with my 6x16 with 205/55-16 tires on my 1973.

    I've got 6x16 & 7x16's and they are a very good sub for the 6x15 7x15 .

That's what I run on my '74. Much wider tire selection than 15's though I agree that 15's look better on early cars.

I have actually seen that the 6x16" rims generally fetch slightly more than the 7x16, due to the fact that 6x16s can be converted to 17" Fuchs easier--they have a more favorable profile for cutting out and machining the center section to accept modular bolt-on inner and outer barrels.

Low profile tires on an early car do look a little funny, and do not provide as much ride comfort due to lack of compliance of the sidewall, but there is a reason tires are trending to lower and lower sidewalls and that is performance.
    YMMV,
