In a box I found about 40 lug nuts from over the years. Still good, edges sharp, not rounded by wrong socket, threads perfect. Just have had the paint chipped or faded.
Is powder coating the way to go?

Ray,
Powder might be OK, but it tends to be applied too thick....makes edges look funky.
Glass bead and use VHT engine enamel, black satin. If you bake in the oven it is very tough.
You might see what Harvey does....he''ll probably read this and reply!

Don't powdercoat them: your sockets will not fit right and they will get scratched up anyway.
The right way to refinish them is the same method the factory used,.......anodizing.
Many of my clients have two sets so when one set starts getting a bit raunchy looking, they slap on their "new" ones and send the old ones off to be re-anodized.

You shouldn't powdercoat them for fittment reasons and for the high temps that some podwercoating requires. Wet paint then light bake is ok but not very durable. The most important thing is the inital inspection for cracks, excessive chipping, twisting and stripped threads.
We strip, prep them and anodize them black. The prepping is the biggest part of the job. The American black is more stable than the purple black that was original but it sill fades over time. The new replacement lugs from Porsche don't resemble the original finish and are either too machined or too polished depending on where Porsche buys them. We go for a semi polish that looks a little like fine machining then anodize. The cut/polish original machining is way too hard to replicate.
Hope this helps.
