67, 911s leather steering wheel, nice restored

I have a very nice original Porsche 911 leather steering wheel. This one is 420mm across and would have been originally on a 1967, 911S. This steering wheel has its original leather cover which has been professionally reconditioned, redyed and restitched with the correct German thread and stitch patterns (baseball stitch on the spokes and x pattern on the rest). The original leather is in really good shape, amazing for 44 years old. This steering wheel comes with a nice original turn signal cancel ring on the back. I'm asking $400 plus shipping.

Please email or call I dont check PM often. I have more pictures I can email interested parties Thanks, davehanning@aol.com 503-860-4740

    Hello,

What is the date code on the wheel ? I believe it should be stamped on the top of the hub . I would have to go look at one of my SWB wheels to make sure it's the same stamping system (I will tommorow) . But 1969MY - 1973 MY produced wheels have the month & year date (1-12 month / last 2 digits of decade) stamped in the top of the hub normally . Along with the full part number (and 'VDM' in a triangle & 'P' in a triangle....which I think I see on yours) . I notice that yours only seems to have '71' stamped in the top of the hub for numbers. I quess that could either be the last two digits of the proper 1967-68MY 420mm leather wrap wheel part number (901 347 082 71) , or the last two digits of 1971 (built as a replacement wheel) . Is anything stamped on the backside of hub ?

Can anyone expound , on what is the norm for 1967 - 68 MY produced VDM steering wheel stampings ?

This one does not have a date code, the one on my 67S does not and I've noticed wood wheels and the 420mm ebonite also do not. I therefore assume that they didnt start dating them until 1968 when they went with the 400mm wheel. It does have the VDM in a triangle on it, just to the left of the 71.

Thx for the reply, I will try to check any I have and look around a bit deeper. FYI , as far as I know , 420mm was still the size used in 1968 MY. 1969 MY went to 400mm

could it be jan/67? my 67S has 69 stamped on the wheel. it is 305992S, Oct 66 build. I thought the wheel was sept/66. probably wrong.
