Need a Porsche race history book....

I want to read up on the Porsche racing history, in preparation for the Rennsport Reunion. What book would you recommend?
    thanks

    Thumbs up

    I agree with Bob,

Hal Thoms 'Porsche Racing Milestones' will do it.

Not only a GREAT coffee table photo essay, but some of the most comprehensive text you'll read.

Probably the best-->The Racing Porsches: A Technical Triumph by Paul Fere.

    24:16 by Norbert Singer

Porsche 917: The Winning Formula by Peter Morgan

Porsche 917: The Undercover Story by Gordon Wingrove

There is also a book about the Porsche 956/962 by Peter Morgan which is very good.

The most complete one, though containing too many details and storys behind the cars, and too many cars (924, etc) is:

Excellence Was Expected by Karl Ludvigsen
1971 911S, 2.7RS spec MFI engine, suspension mods, lightened

For 911s, I like Porsche 911 Story by Paul Fere

Excellence was Expected is probably the most comprehensive. It is not a light read, but very good! You can find the early single volume editions for around $50 on line. "The Porsche Book" by Barth is good as well. Mostly dry technical info and again early editions can be found for less than $20.

"Porsche 917 - The Winning Formula" by Peter Morgan is a terrific book about 917's.

Thanks everyone. I just popped over to ebay and purchased a used copy of the Hal Thoms book for $30. Looks like new copies are quite expensive...

You could also check out "Porsche Racing Cars - 1953 to 1975" by Brian Long. There's also a volume covering post-1975 cars.
