    Thoughts on parting '68 912

These cars multiply like rabbits around here! Anyway, I need some space!!! I've got this '68 912 chassis that is too nice to cut up for parts but then again, I need some parts and I'm sure others do as well... I've seen people restore cars that are FAR worse than this! So I'm asking the forum what you think I should do with it.

Obviously it is missing drive train and most of the interior. The deep sixes are my wheels destined for another project but it has all the correct SWB suspension and brake bits. Also missing the front and rear bumpers and the passenger front fender. Doors are rust free, hood is pretty good, front suspension pan needs replacing and the longitudinals where they meet the door striker posts need attention. Other than that, the car is pretty solid.

    So..........thoughts?

Chris, you swap out projects like socks!

I would save it. Looks too nice to chop. Would be a perfect '912R' basis, a companion to all the 911s!

BTW, Dish on the 67 S project ? Is that your green 67 or another car?!!?!

I don't know if your just asking for opinions. Or looking for interested parties for purchasing it whole , or pieces of it.

But if the latter. Whether you are selling pieces of a car you cut up, or a whole car. Providing the general locale that it sits , is highly productive. As it is probably the most important factor when someone is contemplating purchasing anything of large size.

Scott, I definitely don't need or want another project so a 912R is out of the question....although it would be very cool!

The '67S is a new car and the green/grey '67 has sadly moved on, however I believe it has found a very good home. Specifics on the S will come later but no doubt it will be very cool when finished!

BTW, the 912 is located south of Seattle. This post was not an advertisement for sale but rather opinions on whether to part it or keep it together, allowing a restoration candidate for someone.

    Thanks, Chris

    My humble opinion
    Break it
68 is the second hardest year to restore
    64 is the hardest.

Reason 68 is second hardest is all the one year only parts. Since you can't really go backwards at this point, why not break it and monetize the value of the 68 one year only parts?

SWB suspensions are not all that rare, even in good condition. But the 68 stuff is like the platypus of the Porsche world. Lays eggs shoots poison and has a beak.

I am restoring a 68 912 and yes the parts are a challenge but not impossible. That being said, with that many parts missing off that car it has little value IMO. I need door pockets if you have them. Good luck, I totally understand the "too" many projects thing. Cars, boats, houses. Oh yea, don't forget the family....

Thanks guys, I'm thinking the same thing. I'll rob off any parts I may need for the S and list the rest and put this platypus to sleep

Scott, PM me...yes, I have the door frames
