Fender oil cooler stone guards repro availability ?

    Hi,
Since the original 69-71 S oil cooler and stone guard are rare and expensive and because I want 2 coolers, one on each side, I'm thinking of using late Carrera coolers but with a custom made stone guards that will replicate the original early guards.

Does someone know a source of guard replica or someone who can do the small louvers ? All hot rod guys are doing louvers that are too far one from the others (and with round edges)

I need someone who can do louvers on aluminium plate, so I can cut and fit the panel.

    Let me know !
    Thanks, Regards
    JD

Have you discussed this with Chuck Moreland at Elephant Racing ?

I'd be surprised if he's not in a position to pull the necessary parts off his shelf and ship to you the next day.

John ; I talked to Chuck at Elephant Racing ; For the right side carrera stone guard, he used the stock one still available from Porsche. For the driver side he installed cooler upside down, since he run the oil lines in front of the car instead of in the trunk as the 911R. So he cut and modified a stock guard to fit over, but without opening for oil lines. He think of doing a kit to replicate the 911R setup, but he need a volonter and a donor car to develop the kit. So no help on this side for now, since I'm in Montreal, Canada !

911r67 ; your guards look very good, but over my expectation in $...

    Any other source ?
    Thanks

Seeing the quality of work that Marek does in alluminum (and everything else) don't you think he'd be the man to ask for such a job?

You can contact him at the following link if you don't know who he is.

A guy can take the factory guard and rivet on an extension to make it fill out the ST fender swell. For the driver side, simply take the passenger side unit and reverse the bends for the cooler openings, cut the flange and reweld. A good aluminum welder can do this very easily. Then add tabs to line up with the factory Behr cooler brackets and you're there. These factory guards fit perfectly over the surface of the Behr cooler to protect it from flying rocks, so it is a fairly easy project. You can find these guards for $50-60 on eBay, and the welding work should cost no more than $150 for both.
