    DeltaWing LeMans Entry

This is very cool, particularly with Dan Gurney now involved. That AAR nose sticker looks so right on this car. It's been a long, long time since any racing series has allowed a truly unique car to compete.

That's exciting. Especially with the people involved.... Gurney, Dayton, and Panoz, I would say they have a good chance of pulling this off. This is the direction that F1 should be going - no wings, very light, with a small engine. Imagine 22 of these things dicing around Spa.

Another Tucker Torpedo? I'll believe it when I see it. Should be plenty fast down les Hunaudieres, but how is it going to steer around Arnage? Take it to Bonneville:

Yeah, as an engineer I'm having a little bit of trouble wrapping my head around the turning part of the whole deal. Bad memories of high-siding my tricycle as a kid I suppose

It does have some similarities to Gurney's Pepsi Challenger:

The George Jetson look of the car is hard to warm up to, or figure out how it will corner, but I like the no wing and light direction they are headed. If they would make these changes and run on harder tires to eliminate the marbles that all series seem to be plagued with now, we would see who the real drivers are. And I imagine with Gurney involved they will figure out a way to make it work. I think the front end will have to get wider.

It could be worse - it could be electric! We all complain about spec-racing series and some say even F1 is a quasi spec racing series these days. So I just like that somebody is thinking outside the box and being allowed to race it. I still think a relevant and fantastic series could be made by simply having one rule: you get X amount of fuel to finish the race. Everything else is unlimited!

I agree with both of these sentiments.

    HOWEVER, I still hate it.

    It's ugly.

It's interesting to look at the development of race cars (or any cars for that matter) over time, and see that, outwardly at least, changes are more and more subtle. This has caused my interest in contemporary racing to diminish. What a breath of fresh air the Delta Wing is! Ugly or not. I hope that it proves that the general configuration of a racecar has not become established in a way that will never change. Change is what makes racing exciting!
