Porsches to Oxford - July 29-31 Come see 400+ Porsches & Swap meet!

July 29-31 is the date for the annual Porsche's to Oxford event benefiting the American Cancer Society. Held in the city center of Oxford Ohio, a cozy little college town, P2O has become one of the largest Porsche events in the country, regularly drawing more than 400 cars. Spend the day hanging out with fellow Porsche owners while enjoying the convenience of several Bistros, coffee shops and ice-cream parlors within yards of your parking spot.

Like last year, there will be a swap meet for used parts. There is no charge for used parts venders, so pack up the truck with unwanted items and bring them out to sell. Few swap meets will have as large an audience as you will find at P2O! If you would like to reserve a swap space, please contact me at "Cornpanzer (at) Sbcglobal.net"

    Hope to see you there!

Just a reminder that this event is only 7 days away. If you have parts that you want to sell, bring them. The swap spaces are no charge for non-commercial venders. Great event with a Starbucks, ice-cream and several Bistro's and bars just a few steps away from the cars.

    Oxford Show??

Oxford, Ohio Show on July 30th.......uh
    Show was great...but
The show was great and very HOT.

I took my all original low mileage 1973.5. 911T, even paint was original, car bought by my uncle new in 1973.

There were maybe 400-500 cars, but when a car like a 2012 Speedster gets top billing as one of the show cars, it just does not make sense to me. The car was no doubt great, but it just takes money like over 200k and bingo you get a brick.

The show was billed as a Porsche Party, but no one understood who was considered a nice car to get a award.

Out of all the cars I had the only 1973 911, the long hoods were only about 15 cars, much different then past cars show I been too. Mostly new cars and of course a group of 356. A 356 was best of show, that makes sense, and some 914 did well that's good, but why would the people judging not understand good great unmolested Porsche's, most were just new cars that people can buy for large money.

I know when I attends Wayne's Wine Tour in CA it was loaded with good early 911's that to me is the difference between Ohio cars and CA cars.

    My 2 cents

Yes, the show was very hot but I still had a great time. And yes, there was a lot of late model cars entered this year - there was more water in the car show than the community swimming pool!

There are several reasons why there were not more vintage cars this year. The first and most obvious is because the Porsche Parade is this weekend also in Atlanta. I know that there are many 356 owners who don't miss the Parade for any reason. This likely drew some early 911s too. Also, it was 90+ degrees. Late model Porsches have that silly option called Air Conditioning. If the heat was going to keep anyone away, it would be those without AC

More longhoods at shows in California than here in the rustbelt of the Midwest...well, yeah I suppose you got us there.

Regarding judging. The only 2011 Speedster that I saw was the blue one by the square. This was owned by the Chairperson for the event who spent hundreds of hours to make the event happen and paid all his expenses out of pocket (transporting three cars, hotel, etc). He also paid full rate to have his cars in Marilyn's Row. Oh, and he didn't allow his cars to be included in the judging and thus did not win an award. So, I'm not sure what you mean by "top billing".

The judging policy was pretty simple - participant judging. The cars that won were the ones that were voted for by your fellow participants. People's choice. Yes, this leads to the occasional imbalance - fellow club members voting for each others cars for example - but it is the easiest way to to judge 450 cars over the course of about 5 hours. The cars that got awards were the cars that most people voted for.

I didnt win a brick, but I had a super time anyway. I talked to a lot of people, explained to many why a 6-cyl car would have 12 spark plugs and even got a ride in the 910! Its no mystery that I love the early cars, but funny enough one of my favorite cars yesterday was a new Boxter. The owner had chosen a creamy vanilla paint with brick red interior and it was stunning. He explained that salesman and several of his family members thought it was going to be hideous, but he did it anyway and got himself a really unique and attractive Boxter. Half the fun of these events is talking to the fellow participants. Sometimes you find out that there is a great story behind some of those "everyday' cars.

I took quite a few pics - will try to post later

    Good Comments

Sure I had a good time.

But judging by follow Porsche lovers? Odd.....been to many shows and I find judging is a art. You MUST know the cars. I could see many judges do not understand how, when, parts, originally in vintage Porsches. To be fair it's quite complex and you must be a judge most likely on era. A 356 judge would not be able to know all the 911 long hood stuff.

As far as heat, from talking to long hood buddies, they have decided the show is geared more to "look what I have or could buy", not as many gear heads like here on Pelican.

These new cars, do not need parts from Pelican or Stoddard, they just go back to the friendly Porsche dealer with money in hand. Wish I had $100,000 laying around in a drawer, but if I did I like to wrench. But of course someone bought my 1973 new (my uncle) and I am glad he did.

For my two cents, it was a warm weekend, with a broad cross-section of attendance which clearly led to a broad cross-section of folks who might think something was interesting when I didn't.

I got some answers on final upholstery details for my '59 356 cab (even while I noticed one guy who had upholstered his entire engine compartment). I saw a chopped-and-apparently-channeled "356" which had to be the weirdest porsche I've ever seen, but the builder apparently had fun doing it. I was heartened to see a bunch of nice 912s, including one that lacked the rain deflector, itself, even while it had the spacers for the rain guard (which, ironically, was for sale if he had only gone to the swap meet across the street).

I could say that the swap meet was disappointing, with only two little vendors, but I managed to find a special window crank that I've been seeking for at least a year, so it wasn't so bad.

My personal preferences always run to the historic cars. Personally, I've never figured out the allure of aftermarket wings, but that's just me. Letting any attendee vote for their favorite is certainly one way to do it, but given that premise, and based on the attention she was getting, I'm kind of surprised that the long-legged brunette in the cowboy hat didn't get 'best of show.'

Like I said, it's just my two cents.
