    hi folks...

well i've been lurking on here for a bit trying to gather as much knowledge as i could to prepare for early 911 ownership. today i picked up a numbers matching 73t targa in it's original oxford blue. it looks like a single exterior respray. not a great job but i think there's enough paint on it that it could be revived a bit. anyway it will make a fun driver and hopefully a good entry into the early 911 world.

as i dig into the car i know i'll run into plenty of questions so i'm sure you'll see me hounding you guys for info.

also i'm in the bay area so hopefully i'll run into some of the norcal guys on occasion.

here's a quick pic of the car

    thanks
    sean mackenzie

Welcome, that is a nice looking Targa. What is the full paint code on the decal for the Oxford blue?

    thanks for the welcome.
and the code on the tag says 329-9-2 but there's also a hand written note on the first page of the original maintenance book that says 4810/11 i believe. i'll have to take another look once i get out to the garage today. it's in dire need of some shifter bushings. it looks like the cup is gone completely.

Welcome, if you haven't already consider joining the registry, the small
cost is well worth it to receive our excellent Esses magazine 4 times a
    year.

On another note, does anybody know why that colour is also referred to
as 'Dalmatian blue', I never saw a dalmatian any colours other than
    black and white.

    Andy,

You probably already know this but...color number 329 was known as:

    Seeblau in German
    Oxford Blue in British English
    Dalmatian Blue in US English

Have no idea why they felt the need to change the name!

I think it must refer to the Dalmatian Coast of Croatia. More evocative in the minds of marketing folk than Sea Blue, I imagine.

Nice car Sean! Missed you on the drive today. Would have been great to have two (329) Oxford Blue cars rollin' together. It was a great day for a Targa in the Bay Area
We'll be looking for you @ EASY next month.

    Cheers

Very nice car, in a lovely color.
As an FYI 'Oxford Blue' refers to the color of the OU Rowing Crew jackets. Cambridge wears a pale blue.
