    sheet metal: what is it?

I prostrate myself before the hive mind...

Can anyone tell me what these are and what year they are for?

Part numbers are 901.501.023.20 and 901.501.024.20. They come up as "lateral tank supports" but nothing in the PET looks like them and they are NLA. The replacement part is also listed as NLA!

    Thanks a bunch in advance,

Pet shows that they are for the SWB bodies in the area of the fuel tank, and they look like reinforcement panels. For someone doing a front suspension pan replacement they may be useful. Restoration Design might be interested in them.

They look like the front portions - L & R - of the gas tank lateral supports for '65-'73 models.

    Hi,

Those are the front portions of the gas supports for a SWB -68 car. Incase a pic helps using a 68 T we restored.

    Bingo!

Alan, that pic is awesome. Thanks.

It took me a minute since it's all reversed!

    Tank Support

Maybe I'm not seeing what others are seeing - but those look like the back half of the tank support panels.
I think the brackets hold the top of the conical spud that the steering rack bolts to.

In the trunk photo that welded-in spud is just a button shaped weld.

The other hole is for the fuel tank hold down bolt, left and right (with it's captured nut).

    What'cha think?

I agree Bob, I also thought that brace was for the rack support bolt. I figured that years ago you had to buy the whole pan from Porsche in order to get the front half which all you really needed, leaving the cut off rear half.

Are there tells of them being cut? I think both Alan and Bob are (in a way) correct only Alan's part was apparently used. That is also the part that often rust (leaking acid battery).

    just my $.02

Here is a repro of the floor section that the subject panels spot weld to. This floor section has the two pointy spud's that fit into the bracket and thru the top of the panels we are discussing. It is located just above the steering rack.

(Comments (in red) on the floor section is from a prior discussion - nothing to do with this).

I haven't checked this in a bit, sorry!

The pieces do not look like they have been cut.

Just so I'm following, they are basically 'upside down' (relative to the original picture) when installed?
