    Dana Point Concours, Jun 2011

Haven't been to the Dana Point Concours ever, so . . . .

Golf course venue surrounded by sorta-ocean-view sub-divisions. Parking on the surrounding city streets, free shuttles. Got there kinda late so . . . got my exercise. Beautiful perfect gorgeous weather.

    1) and 2) Renault Alpine A110, rear-engined, fiberglass, 140 HP, 1200 lb, rally-terror. A great reason to not take your 911 off the tarmac, after '71.

    3) and 4) Siata 300 BC? . . . one good-looking pedal car.

    Requisite Porsche content . . .

    1) and 2) No details on this car but it was sitting in a section of the show for vehicles going to the auction.

    3) and 4) The Dunkel's 550. Car has 16" GT (alloy rim riveted to steel center) wheels.

    1) XK120 . . . nice colors. '50 reg tab.

    2) thru 4) Lambo LM002. 5900 lbs, 450 hp 5.2l V12. 7.8 MPG, hence fuel capacity = 76 gal. Oil capacity = 18.5 qt. 301 built. Now I know where these all went!

Argh! Group Pantera. Candy apple red . . . and yeah --- 'at's genuine gold plating --- even on the trans. Bold. Distinctive. Unforgetable.

I actually like Bugattis --- ever since I heard one fire-up for the Judges at Pebble, few years back. (Sounded like a GP motorcycle --- swear.) Wanted to like this one. Looks like a '30s take on the Batmobile, but didn't sound as potent as some . . . kinda farty --- and I'm sure the reedy little lute-pipes didn't help. Smoked, too.

But still striking to look at, really small car.

Pretty frustrated, here. Guy Behind the Wheel could not get the thing moving for trying --- hung around for so long, trying to get a picture --- ready to pull The Guy out and drive the damn thing myself . . .

Thanks for the photos, looks like a great turnout! I could have met you too.

The weekend weather was beyond words, absolutely perfect and all we could think of was the beach. I've been at my Mom's house in San Clemente for the last two weeks on vacation and saw the signs in Dana Point for the event. On Saturday the wife and I decided to hang at Crystal Cove, Reef Point beach for the afternoon and I wondered what the big fuss was with the white tents on PCH so north on Dana Point. Anyway I guess dragging her down to SD on Friday and insisting to see Autobahn Interiors and meet Tony was enough... I got my fix then :-)

    Back to Vermont tonight!

Great stuff...amazing that the Renault Alpine A110 is registered in CAL for street use!

Oh yeah . . . . few Benzs showed up. Usual stuff, 300 SLs --- Gullwings and 'Verts (yawn), SCs (injected), 600 Pullmaen (red), etc.

    Then there was this 540K . . .

Anyone get any pics of the motorcycle display? I was invited to enter my 73 BMW R75 but I was committed to another duty that weekend...
