    Value of 68 2.0 engine

    Hello

I need some help to estimate the value of 68 2.0 engine sitting on my shelf, the engine is almost complete, missing the fan and the flywheel. It has zenith carbs, and an aluminium engine case. The engine does not turn over and has been sitting for many years so it will need a complete rebulid.
I have searched all over the web but cant find any complete engines for sale, only with the magnesium block. I am thinking of selling, because i have no use for it and its better if someone who needs one can make use of it. It does no good just sitting on a shelf

    Thanks

It would help a lot if you provided the serial #, type # and build #
See this thread for details of where to find these numbers.

    Engine number is 2081358
    Type number iis 901/03 14817
Same number one both halves of the engine case, 148

And by the way its Solex carbs, not Zenith.

    Thanks

Can you post some pictures? The 14817 'should be' a Mag case.

That is a T engine for the Rest of the World (RoW) as opposed to North America. Essentially a Euro engine. Should be Magnesium case. As the first iteration of a mag case engine (1R castings) it is not a desirable engine for the most part. It would be of greatest interest to the owner of the car from which it came if it still exists. Also to someone that needs an engine of the same type if not numbers matching. Not sure why it would have Solex carbs at that point, they must have replaced the original carbs on the engine.

I will double check the numbers tomorrow and try to take som decent pictures, I was told by the guy who wants to purchase it that it is an aluminium case. It looks like an alu case to me, but I am no expert.

I really appreciate the help so far, thanks!

One easy way to tell the cases apart is by the location of the serial # on the fan support. If it is on the face of the engine (when looking at the fan blade) then it is aluminum. If it is on the right side of the support (the same side as the type & build #s) then it is magnesium. Another way to tell is by the cast part #'s on the side of the case below the oil return tubes; if it ends in 0R then it is aluminum, but if it is 1R or higher then it is magnesium. See this thread:
