    1967 911 Factory Race Car

Original matching number, well documented Factory Trans Am race car just out of long term storage needing restoration. Please see my site http://www.porsport.com/index.php?op...=353&Itemid=55 and please pick up the phone and call me if interested. Thanks.

Can you clarify the type of motor this car was originally fitted with. From looking at the chassis number photo on your website. It seems to be a 'normal' model (no S in VIN) . Yet , you say it has Sport Kit & Rally kit options . These were applicable options to normal motors ? Or is it a 'Normal' model car, built with S model & gearbox ..and other S components ?

    Thx

It is the original 901/30 Rally engine. The S was not eligible for TA so these were a plain 911 in 67 and 911L in 68 but essentially the same car and same options for TA. Any of these special Rally Kit cars carried a regular vin# just the engine and gearbox numbers were a special designation.

I am pretty sure that this car would have left the factory w/ a regular engine series number, 911 XXX. Was the 'special designation' stamped in the engine somewhere? If so can you please post pictures of that?

    Thanks,

    Richard

The engine is stamped 911/30 I will double check the engine number. The 68 TA cars had sequential engine numbers and I believe the 67s did too.

Which Trans-Am races did the car run in 1968? I can see in my records where that car ran in 1967, but not in 1968. Would like to correct my records where appropriate. Thanks.

Thank to all for the links. varunan123 , those thrree posts were very descriptive.

    narparsei,

Bernd , Berndt , Bernie Lekow / Lekkow seems to not have run the 1968 SCCA Trans-am season for some unknown reason.

    Here's what pops up :

Date Place Division Start Finish Owner # Car Laps Money Status Laps Led

Mar 31 1967 Sebring International Raceway SCCA Trans Am 51 27 Joseph Mernovage 61 NSU Prinz 55 150 running 0

    Jun 11 1967 Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course SCCA Trans Am 31 22 NSU 39 75 did not finish 0

Aug 12 1967 Marlboro Motor Raceway SCCA Trans Am 8 Porsche 911 159 80 running

    Aug 27 1967 Continental Divide Raceways SCCA Trans Am 11 Porsche 911 86 110 running 0

    Sep 17 1967 Riverside International Raceway SCCA Trans Am 10 Porsche 911 87 450 running 0

Oct 1 1967 Stardust International Raceway SCCA Trans Am 7 Porsche 911 106 275 running

    Oct 8 1967 Pacific Raceways SCCA Trans Am 10 77 Porsche 911 120 275 running

Aug 10 1969 Watkins Glen International SCCA Trans Am 32 91 Porsche 911 disqualified

    ----------------------

And this list has omited for some reason the 1969 St. Jovite, Quebec race which I posted the photo from in one of those earlier threads (of which my earlier posted info. about the disqualification was incorrect. Apparently this car finished 10th overall there at the hands of "Gerry Frydenlund") . B. Leckow was probably there also, in the same car. As they seem to have been a team. But the more detailed results listed attached below do not mention Leckow. The motor disqualification was , as listed above , at Watkins Glen. AND two weeks later at 1969 Laguna Seca

So that means 2 races in 1969 that he (they) were disqualified from for a motor.

1969 Watkin Glen : (now spelled) "Jerry Freydenlund' / Bernd Leckow - illegal engine

1969 Laguna Seca : Jerry Freydenlund / Bernd Leckow - illegal engine

    I am attaching 1967 - 69 Season detailed results.

Yes , it does seem strange no listings for the 1968 season. Maybe the car was rented to another racer for this season ? Someone will have to do some further digging

*I am wondering if this 3rd appearance (2nd engine disqualification) at 1969 Laguna Seca is accurate . I suspect it is an incorrect transcription from the original SCCA results documents. And is the Watkins Glen listing for this car repeated ? I have the Original SCCA docs. for the 1969 season from which these others were transcrbed . The appearance / engine disqualification is not listed on the original 69 Laguna Seca results (plus this race would be a long travel to get to , as I believe these people were from the east).

I will attach the original Doc.s in a following post.
