Post Introduction 1964 project and some help needed

    Hi,

I posted some questions and comments here and there, but did not introduce my project so far. As there is some nice progress now, I would like to share it here.

I bougth a 1964 911 end of 2006 / beginning of 2007, which was converted to a turbo look in the 80ties in Beirut. It was painted red and got a 1969 T engine. I brought the car back to Germany and started to hunt for parts while I was dismantling it slowly.

Meanwhile my metal made a very good job and the car looks like a 1964 again. All the main metal work is done and the paint job is scheduled for September.

As I want to do it as original as possible I do have some question and I would appreciate any help on this.

I read a lot about the "schutz" and I have seen a couple of cars, but I am not sure where the schutz on the rocker panel should stop. And where the black paint from the floor should stop and the body color should begin.
Another schutz question - should there be schutz on the rolled over fender edges in the wheel wells - front and rear?

Here you find some fotos as my car looked like and how it looks today. Hope you like it.

    Mark,
The edges should be body color.

Also, make sure if your metal man has welded in tabs for the (4) screw horn grills.

If those are new OEM Porsche frt fenders from the last years (at least) you actually have to widen the lips / edges. 68 and replacement Porsche fenders that I am familiar w/, have narrower edges/ lips.

As for the schutz on the rockers .. about 3 cm's up. I will post a picture for you in the next days.

Looks great! How about some photos inside?

Richard can help you with the Schutz line or if he doesn't have one handy I will send you one. I also have details on where the Schutz inside began and ended but prefer to see what your restorer has done first, easier to advise that way.

    Hi John

My car has not been restored yet, so you probably have studied this already.

Anyway this is what I know about the rocker. It's about 37 mm.

BTW this is a May / June 66 Karmann coupe

Here are a few- I don't trust the red one as it was a poor repaint but you can see the shadow of the schutz line. Green car is 304069, four numbers off from mine, claimed to be OG paint. White car is completely unrestored, can you tell?

On my red one we removed the schutz w/ dry ice blasting (it also brought to surface the original shade of Polo red). The schutz was the original. Again mine car is a Karmann which might be different from Porsche.

    Thank's for your Feedback.

    @John, Richard:
The left front fender is an original one which I have purchased some time ago in the US. It has the 4 tabs for the horn grill and the lip/edge is widen. The right one has been done accordingly.

But what about the rear fenders? Do I have to widen them as well? My car has got two new complete OEM rear fenders, which are narrored as the OEM front fenders nowadays.

Ok, lips/edges will Be bodycolor, but should they get Schutz, too?

I will post some fotos of the inside being back home on Friday.
