    Early Wiper Arms Question

    Hi all,

On the early 900 series cars (with silver arms that park on the passenger side) I 've seen both the passenger side arm straight where the arm hangs off a bit, and the end of the arm bent "up" so the blade sits more on the glass. I have a set of each. Both sets are SWF and share the same part number.

I saw the pic of a "concours" '67 911 in the FS section (below) with a straight pass side arm but I've also seen original '67 cars with the pass side bent.
Can anyone shed some light on this for me? Is this a case of "early" vs "late"? If so, does anyone know the date cutoff? I want the right arms on my '66.

The following pic of a stright pass side arm is from this thread:

This pic of a bent pass side arm is of an original '67 from the 912bbs:

I've had my 67S (built late 1966) since 1979 and believe it original except for black paint. I show arms adjusted in parked position with close-ups of the end of each. Both arms have a bend, one up and one down. It appears that the picture of the tan 912 has the same arms as mine except the passenger side arm isn't adjusted down as far as I have mine.

When in doubt go to the parts manual

    From the parts manual.

Updated (in 1969) manual is missing diagram 9/4, it lists part numbers only.

Info about the Model "O" covers both series up to 302 694 and from 302 695 to 308 454
Only two part numbers for the arms
    901 628 929 00 Left
    901 628 930 00 Right

On some of the first cars (1964) the park was to the drivers side.
Herbert Linge and Peter Falk drove the Monte Carlo Rally in January 1965, at the rally start the wipers are parked in front of the driver.
The drivers (left) side is straight, passenger (right) side is bent down.

At the finish they are parked in front of the passenger.
Left side is straight, the passenger side is now at the other end of the arc pointing up. (still bent the same). This is the park position identified in period literature as being correct. (Two engineers in the car for days found a better position ?).

    Diagram 9/4 b starts with Model "A" (1968 - with chassis starting from 118 )

    Three wiper arm part numbers

Straight - for both left hand and right hand steering
bends Up for left hand steering - as shown on the passengers side by both the sand beige and Pauls Yellow car.
bends Down for right hand steering

Did you notice only one bent end per set.

Dealers and owners made changes. I have to admit the driver bent down and passenger bent up looks right - but that's from 44 years after.
