    Modified or O.E.?

Hi all, it has been awhile since I posted, I sold my car 1967 911S, SR# 305809S a few years back.
I was just contacted by the secretary of the new owner who lives in the Netherlands.
He is doing a thorough and beautiful repaint, restoration of the car. My mixed emotions concern removing OE stuff, to make the car look like it had never looked before.
A brief history on this car, it was a special ordered car built Sept. 1966.
For example it never had Fuchs until a couple of years into it's life, it left the factory with steel wheels, very early in its life it got Fuchs the Cibie hood lights removed and AC installed. 1969 for the AC and the removal the hood lights and much of the other stuff.
When I got the car and went through the records and pictures that came with it and saw the OE wiring for the hood lights I re-installed them, and the re-wiper and the fog lights.
The new owner has removed the wiring for the Cibie's and filled the holes in a nicely done effort to make this car look like a production "s"
Now I am not a total purist as I did twin plug the engine and some other reliability mods, but it seems a shame to take a very unique Special werks early "s" and modify it to look like a production "S' ?
I know the original owner of this car had unique taste that is not suited to a lot of people ( it also came with blue leather seats) but,,,,
I have tried to not think about this because it really does not concern me any more as it is no longer my car, but I am thinking about it and I think I need to hear from the community to rest my mind, thanks in advance, Fritz

i'm always one for factory build for pre 74's unless there is a really good reason. One car down here was imported from england 73E and was by all accounts pretty concourse with full option list , BUT it was rebuilt into a rally car and run in new zealand / aussie by quite a famous nz rally driver , so more famous as a rally car but was a minter 73e prior ....what would you do?

I recently sold my 56 Speedster to move up to a fully restored perfect example. It had a older restoration, and had a lacquer finish that had taken on a lovely patina,
it had fine cracking and crazing and people were constantly saying things like I cant believe it still has its original paint. When the buyer came to inspect the car, he told me the first thing he was going to do was repaint the car, I was mortified. But the fact is, its his car now and my opinion is worth zero.

PS: I took the new one to cars and coffee, where it was ignored. As I was walking past a group of Ferrari guys I overheard somebody comment about my car. The pack leader, chomping on a cigar, proclaimed to all that it was just a replica. Though, I did have a sense of satisfaction correcting a know-it-all, I rarely ever had anyone mistake the other one for a replica.

I remember the ad when you sold the car, I really would have liked to buy it, and it would have stayed as you had it, but I'm afraid other owners may not see things as we do. I stopped selling my cars long ago, I just keep adding more, can't bear to part with them.

It would be crimminal not to return the car to silver with blue leather. It would be spectacular.

The A/C would be in the scrap pile within moments of me taking delivery.

I'm not an accessory light guy, but if they were factory....

That was a great car Fritz

Thanks for the reply's, I sure enjoyed that car and had a great time on the drives with it.
I really wanted to return the car to silver and am glad the new owner is doing a fine job doing that.
I also do not like the accessory lights but since that was original spec. I went back with them. I also even had steel wheels for car shows to have it as close as I could to OEM.
I did not like to drive with steel wheels because it made the car feel lethargic.
Tom, I do feel it is almost criminal to take away the unique features of a special ordered car.
Reminds me of the Austin Martin that was used in the early James Bond film, after filming the car was put back to stock and sold as a new car, many years later it was restored back to the James bond spec. to celebrate the film role instead of hiding it.

I don't get this thread either: A former owner who did mods himself is now complaining the new owner will also?
