    Twisted My Only Key!!

    Hello -

I unfortunately twisted the key to my 72 this weekend. It's the only one I have, and I'm a little worried about getting a replacement. I can still fit it in and out of the ignition with a little wiggling. Once it's in it turns just fine. Can anyone tell me how I go about getting new keys made please?

Blanks are readily available for '72, several eBay vendors have them priced from about $20.

I was lucky enough to do that 2 years ago at the Porsche swap/356 event in Anaheim. Tony was there and cut a key on the spot. Can't say enough about Tony's service. Very few traditional key cutters left in the real world. They've been replaced by automated machines.

a decent locksmith should have generic blanks in stock and a good one can work with your damaged key. make sure he understands it's the only one you have.

    ps. STOP using that one.

You may be able to get a new key cut by the dealer if you provide the Vin number. I would try Santa Monica Lock and Key in Santa Monica CA on Pico Blvd. They are German car experts. They specialize in 356. Porsche keys and locks come in from all around the country. MBZ and BMW too. They have done a wonder with my parts.

+3 for Tony. He made me some new keys for my 68 from my key code. Exactly like the originals down to the stamped numbers and perfect fit.
